VAXXi
Disgruntled Drivers Sue GM Daewoo By Lee Hyo-sik The year-long controversy surrounding the recall of Rezzo, a popular compact minivan manufactured by GM Daewoo, has developed into a full-blown court battle. Twenty-two owners of the minivan took legal actions against GM Daewoo at the Inchon district court yesterday, demanding 5 million won ($4,166) in compensation for each plaintiff. They accused the automaker of ignoring fundamental engine flaws by simply changing the ECM (engine control module) chip that controls the ignition cycle, insisting that the only solution to the problem is to replace the whole engine. The automaker has been carrying out the voluntary recall since it was recommended by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation in late March, acknowledging the problem of a faster-than-normal engine revolution cycle, which causes damage to the engine inner cylinder and piston rings. The recall covers 163,977 units of Rezzo, which were manufactured and sold between Dec. 27, 1999 and March 1, 2004, and will end on Sept. 1, 2005. However, the dissatisfied drivers contended that since the extent of the recall by GM-Daewoo does not sufficiently ensure the engine safety, they would continue to persuade car owners with similar problems to join the case to seek a more complete solution. On the other hand, a GM Daewoo official said yesterday that it makes no sense to initiate a litigation when the carmaker has been faithfully and constructively implementing the recall to fix the problem. He added that the plaintiffs involved in the case do not represent the opinions of all Rezzo drivers and the matter will be settled in court. http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/biz/200405...19154011910.htm Link to comment

strumfuadi
Link to comment
